How they benefit -Through better understanding and respect for all cultures present in Mid and East Antrim Borough Council -To develop participate in
programmes that value diversity as building blocks of cohesive communities -Through the development of initiatives that address racism in all of its forms -Through the enabling of Ethnic Minority members to develop pride in who they are and develop confidence in their cultural identity How the benefits can be demonstrated -The participation in programmes that value diversity as building blocks of cohesive communities -Awareness and respect of different cultures that live in Mid and East Antrim Borough Council -Verbal and written feedback In relation to purpose 2 Who are the beneficiaries Members of the Ethnic Minority Community in Mid and East Antrim Borough Council How they benefit -Through signposting through our Bi-lingaul Advocacy Service to Adult educational programmes and Job Centres and Recrutiment Agencies -Through sign-posting through our Bi-lingaul Advocacy Service to statutory and voluntary agencies in the Borough through our links with the Inter Agency Ethnic Support Group -Through mental health and well being programmes organised by BIEF and Ballymena Friendship Club -Through links to local PSNI in order to encourage personal safety of BME communities -Through the provision of Advocacy & Bi-Lingual Support to enable understanding, communication & connections to Statutory and voluntary agencies. -Improvement in social, emotional and physical wellbeing of participants. How the benefits can be demonstrated -Record of numbers using the service -Evidence of agenices to which BME communities have been sign-posted to -An increase in confidence to report Race Hate Crimes by EM community members – visible through PSNI and Bi-Lingual Advocate Statistics -Verbal and written feedback In relation to purpose 3 Who are the beneficiaries Members of the local community and members of the Ethnic Minority Community in Mid and East Antrim Borough Council How they benefit -By promoting the integration of ethnic minorities into all areas of civic, social, economic and community life -By working closely with Ballymena Inter-Agency Ethnic Support Group -By working closely with Community Groups, Youth groups and schools -By building partnerships with other key local and regional groups / agencies -By promoting cultural diversity which advances the development of a cohesive and shared society How the benefits can be demonstrated -Projects implemented -Training programmes delivered -Participants written and/or verbal feedback In relation to purpose 2 Who are the beneficiaries Members of the Ethnic Minority Communities and the General Public in Northern Ireland particularly the Area of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council How they benefit -Through the signposting of BME communities to Adult learning opportunities, information and training -Educating BME communities about equity of access and equal opportunity through information clinics and bi-lingual support -Through recreational programmes organised by BIEF and through Ballymena Friendship Club -Attending seminars that address barriers to BME communities accessing services. -Improvement in social, emotional and physical wellbeing of participants. How the benefits can be demonstrated -By equitable access to services -Links to local government, employers or other community organisations -Numbers attending information clinics/seminars -Through partnership projects with key local and regional groups / agencies and church groups. The Ethnic Minorities Project was developed in 2002 by Ballymena Community Forum in partnership with Ballymena Borough Council in supporting its Good Relations Strategy of promoting racial equality, diversity and good relations. Ballymena Inter-Ethnic Forum is a key partner in building a culturally diverse community where everyone is safe,
welcomed, valued and empowered and through the Bi-Lingual Advocacy Project continues to make a key contribution to a culturally diverse society through partnership working and service provision that promotes equality for people regardless of their nationality or ethnicity. The aim of Ballymena Inter –Ethnic Forum is to support Ethnic Minority communities in Ballymena Borough to integrate into society by providing links to statutory, voluntary bodies and community groups and thereby ensuring equitable delivery of services, promoting equality for all, strengthening good relations, capacity building and raising awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity so that members of the ethnic minority communities can see themselves as integral citizens of Northern Ireland.
