Public benefits
The public benefit flowing from our purposes are that individuals or groups from the Coalisland district are able to come together in a neutral venue to involve themselves in a range of recreational activities. More than 80 individuals participate annually in crotchet, dress making, patch work and craft classes. Participants improve their own
skills, learn from each other, learn from their tutors and create a large range of craft work. This gives the participants a sense of pride. It also gives them an opportunity to socialise therefore avoiding isolation and loneliness. A further benefit is that participants can benefit from recognised speakers from a range of statutory agencies on themes such as home safety, health and wellbeing, healthy cooking, looking after oneself etc. This educates participants and reassures them and at the same time impacts on the fear of crime. As a result members are happier, more confident, more neighbourly and feel that they belong to a community where they are valued and where their work is appreciated. They benefit from being able to use their own skills and to learn from the skills of others. The benefits are measured by regular feedback sessions, evaluation records are kept at the end of each semester. The tutors also evaluate skill levels and the way in which this benefits the individuals participating. The Committee has regular feedback sessions with the members so that they can plan each year in advance. A final evaluation of the achievements of the group is done through an annual exhibition of all of their work which is open to the public. There is no harm flowing from these purposes and no private benefit except for payment to tutors who are necessary for the ongoing work of the association. Rent is paid to Coalisland Development Association for use of the premises, again an integral part of the work of the Association.

Coalisland Learn and Leisure Association provides a variety of sewing and craft classes to a large number of women from the Coalisland area. They provide 5 classes a week currently ranging from crochet, dress making, patch work and crafts. All classes are supervised by competent and suitable qualified tutors so that participants can improve their
individual skills. The Association also engages a number of speakers each year on topics such as home safety, health and wellbeing, healthy eating, looking after oneself. We also have a pubic exhibition of the best of our work which is open to the public each year. The organisation tries to arrange several outings/bus trips each year.
