Belleek Community Carers Group seeks to enhance the lives of carers in the rural area surrounding environment. As carers in a rural setting, accessing services and support is difficult as a group we recognise this difficulty and have set up a time and place where carers can come and meet others with caring responsibilities and facing similar
difficulties in accessing support. This will encourage people to make more time for activities they will benefit from the positive mental health of social interaction and community activities. The skills that will be developed through these activities will be of enormous value to the participants, as the skills and activities that will be provided will encourage self development and social interaction. The improvement of skills through participation in the activities will lead to an increased quality of life for those taking part, the fact that these will be available locally is vital. Participants will also benefit from the associated social interaction that attending activities like this brings and friendships grows over the shared interests. This project will allow the development of new activities in a rural area to a group of people that find themselves excluded from "normal" activities due to the combined nature of their caring responsibilities and their rural location. This project will improve individual capacity through the learning and development of new skills and also lead to an increase of self confidence amongst participants. they will have the opportunity to become more involved in their community and realise that together they can make a difference not only to their own life but also to the lives of those around them - especially through the training in social media as this will be aimed at reducing the feeling of isolation.
