Public benefits
Bryson Intercultural promotes the following purposes for the public benefit: 1. To promote equality of opportunity and good ethnic relations between persons of different ethnic groups and the elimination of unlawful ethnic discrimination; The general public benefits from this work as it removes potential community tension, fear and conflict and
allows minority communities to contribute to wider society. Specific ethnic minority groups also benefit, in particular black and minority ethnic and the Roma community in that equality of opportunity and good community relations allows them to integrate socially and economically and to participate fully in society. 2. To advance public education; The general public benefits from our work to enhance understanding of different cultural backgrounds and thereby remove suspicion and fear and create good community relations. The minority ethnic communities benefit from this work in that the removal of fear, suspicion and misunderstanding allows them to be accepted into local communities. 3. To protect and preserve health and alleviate need, hardship and/or distress among persons from minority ethnic groups; The principal beneficiaries from our work in this area are asylum seekers who are supported on arrival into Northern Ireland and the Roma community through our health programme. 4. Such other charitable purposes for the benefit of the public. The purposes of the organisation are charitable as they fall under the approved purposes as listed in the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 specifically: • The advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation or the promotion of religious or racial harmony or equality and diversity. • The relief of those in need. • The advancement of education. The Charity has responded to changing patterns of migration and identified need; advocating and promoting human rights and equity through empowerment, collaboration and partnership approaches it aims to help integrate those from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds into Northern Ireland society and promote good relations between all ethnic groups. In particular it offers: • An Asylum Support Service – 450 individuals supported in the past year. • Roma Health Programme – 600 people supported in the past year. • Roma Children’s Community Education project, preparing younger children for mainstream school attendance. • Community Relations Support Services in South Belfast, helping to reduce tensions between Roma and the local community. • Cultural Awareness training in collaboration with TIDES Training Bryson Intercultural is a member on the South Belfast Roundtable on Racism, Immigration sub- group (Law Centre), CYPSP, Race Panel- Roma Interagency Group and Strategic Migrant Partnership. The quality of services in meeting the needs of beneficiaries is assured through reports to funders including OFMDFM, the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and Belfast City Council, alongside inspection by third party assessors such as Investors in People and the European Foundation for Quality Management. Any potential harms are outweighed by the service benefits and alleviated through a formal process of risk assessments alongside robust health and safety policies and procedures. There are no private benefits to any individuals connected with the organisation other than the payment of salaries to staff or fees to third party service providers which are a necessary requirement in order to provide our services and therefore incidental to the carrying out of the purposes.

The Charity responds to the changing patterns of migration and identified need; advocating and promoting human rights and equity through empowerment, collaboration and partnership approaches. it aims to help integrate those from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds into NI society and promote good relations between all ethnic groups. In
particular it works to make a real and tangible difference to the lives of asylum seekers and the Roma community.
