What your organisation does

Hillstown Rural Community Group was established to help improve the lives of the local community by offering a variety of activities within the local area that will increase community cohesion and reduce social isolation. To date our Group has been involved in arranging a number of community activities and initiatives in our local area. Our

Group currently works in partnership with another local community group, Grange Cross Community Association on a Building the Community Pharmacy project funded through the Community Development and Health Network. We about to commence our second Level 2 Programme having successfully completed Level 1 and a previous Level 2 which ended in December 2013. In 2014 we also had a very successful Seniors Luncheon Club funded through DARD Rural Challenge Programme which took place on a fortnightly basis. We have recently hosted the STRIPE GOLI Educating Ourselves Programme. We have organised a number of Day Trips for the local community. We have also hosted various historical talks, Men's Health Night, Drugs Awareness Evening, Cultural Evenings, The Last Post Commemoration, PSNI Crime Prevention Talk, Community Christmas Dinner, Musical Well-being Event, Reminiscence Sessions and Traditional Music Classes. Some activities coming up in the next couple of months include: Womens Group Complementary Therapies, and Great War Centenary Commemorative event. Our Group is one of 7 member groups of Bann Maine West Community Cluster which was established to provide a co-ordinated approach to community activity and enhanced networking opportunities for the member groups.
