Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from our purpose include the multi-faceted developmental opportunities for children younger than pre-school age. The group is led by volunteers who include a qualified pre-school leader and Early Years teacher (currently on a career break) who plan activities in advance to ensure they are age-appropriate and enhance
areas such as fine and gross motor skills, social skills, role play, imaginative and creative development through art activities and role play areas. Social skills are an important feature of the programme. Feedback is continually sought from early education specialists such as Early Years Organisation for young children and the local playgroup leader who have provided positive reinforcement of our activities. There is also opportunity for parents to meet before formal education, and to discuss parenting concerns and issues with other parents at similar stages. On occasion, we invite health care professionals to attend our group to present on different topics relevant to our age-group. Our group is probably one of the few cross-community play groups in the area and lasting friendships have development across the religious divide continuing past entry to secular primary school. These benefits are demonstrated by the repeated attendance at our group in an area which has a number of toddler groups and activities. We run a questionnaire mid-way through our year, to allow attendees to settle into the group. In addition, we have a comment box in which we have only received positive comments. No harm or private benefit is anticipated to flow from our activities.

We are a once-weekly stay-and-play facility for children from 0 to 5 years of age along with their parents and carers. We offer many types of play and interest for children of this age for physical and mental development, cognitive, emotional and social advancement and an opportunity to meet children in their area with whom they will most likely go
to pre-school, school, after-school and other physical activities in the Donaghmore area. Flowing from this primary purpose, there is also an opportunity for parents to meet before formal education begins, and to form a sounding board for parenting challenges.
