Public benefits
Belfast City Mission meets the public benefit requirement by providing benefit to its members and the general public by making known the Christian Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through the advancement of religion. The objective is to promote the cause of Christ among the poor and non-church going people of the City of Belfast and adjacent
districts, and to promote the spiritual, moral, intellectual, and physical welfare of such people. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: 1 Supervision of Mission Halls and leadership in the fulfilment of the Belfast City Mission charitable purpose. 2 Provision of a forum for public worship. 3 Pastoral care (including for the sick, disabled and bereaved). 4 Spiritual and moral development. 5 Ministry to Adults, children and young people. 6 Ministry to immigrants. 7 The protection of vulnerable adults. 8 The presentation of the teachings of the Bible along with opportunities for appropriate response. 9 The production of appropriate literature and associate material in physical and digital formats. 10 Making available activities that seek to promote an understanding of Christian beliefs as set out in the Bible and. 11 The training of Missionaries and workers and volunteers in order to advance the delivery of our charitable purpose and benefits. 12 Organised occasions such as events for young people, special and Annual Meetings. Generally the above benefits are delivered locally by the Mission Hall and, where appropriate, the Superintendents Board. The benefits are made known through the use of notice boards, printed material, press advertisements, websites, social media and in other way. The benefits are demonstrated through regular evaluation of the services and informal and ad-hoc feedback from members, their families, and members of the public. The purpose does not lead to harm. The only private benefit flowing from the purpose is related to those who receive benefits as a result of their holding of office and employment, (Executive Secretary, Secretaries, and Missionaries). However, this is incidental and necessary in order to further our advancement of the religious charitable purpose. There are no other private benefits. The beneficiaries of this purpose are our regular attenders to the Mission Halls, their families and other individuals in the community in which we minister, who benefit from our engagement directly or through our contribution to the purpose of the Belfast City Mission.
