Public benefits

Shopmobility Belfast's purpose is to help people of all ages and denominations who have permanent or temporary mobility problems by providing mobility equipment, enabling them to use the facilities of Belfast City Centre and surrounding areas. This ensures people can access those facilities with greater freedom, independence and dignity. It reduces

feelings of loneliness and isolation and enhances social interaction and builds confidence for our users. At the end of August 2015 Shopmobility Belfast had 8,500 members. We receive regular feedback from our users which can be seen on our Facebook and Twitter pages and on the Testimonial page on our website at www.shopmobilitybelfast.co.uk.

What your organisation does

Our organisation helps people with mobility difficulties to get around by providing equipment - electric scooters, wheelchairs and rollators, free to our members on a daily basis. We also provide a longer term hire service of mobility equipment for a small fee. We train and assess our users to a high standard to ensure health and safety for

themselves and the general public when using our equipment. We do this on an individual basis and also run scooter safety days when we present to groups and train them to use the equipment. We are involved in partnerships with other community and voluntary groups and organisations such as the Belfast Health Trust and Belfast City Council to provide our service through contracts and projects to the most isolated and vulnerable in society. We have scooters at a number of Countryside venues (eg Crawfordsburn Park) where members can access the park for free during the better weather. We also provide sports equipment for some of our younger, disabled users to enable them to participate in fun activities. Most days Shopmobility Belfast also advises and guides visitors to our units on all matters pertaining to disability and accessibility.
