Public benefits

The advancement of health or the saving of lives Objectives: 1. To advance education and provide or secure the provision of social services, practical assistance and act as a sign posting forum to appropriate services for the benefit of the general public in the area of benefit. 2.To ensure that there is a multi agency approach to suicide

prevention and positive mental health in the Ballynahinch area of the widest possible representation. 3. To seek to ensure that there are tangible suicide prevention activities undertaken to address prevention, intervention and postvention. 4. To promote the preservation and protection of health among people of all ages by providing or assisting in the provision of appropriate, professional, locally-based counselling services for those in need, who would not otherwise be able to avail of such services through lack of means. Purpose one The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the provision of information to the general public and sign posting, with regard to the availability of organisations which support those suffering from mental health issues, family and friends who have been affected by suicide and increased awareness in the community of factors leading to depression, self harm and suicide. The beneficiaries of this purpose are primarily those living in the greater Ballynahinch area but specifically anyone who chooses to visit the centre, visit the website or sign up for courses provided. A private benefit to trustees or volunteers may arise through our programme of training in good governance, suicide awareness etc. whereby individuals gain skills and experience transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose two The benefits which flow from purpose two include improvement in the effectiveness of provision of care to the community by increasing the opportunity for those in need to be directed to the appropriate source of help and thus obtain effective help as soon as possible. This improves the likelihood of reduced stress and improved outcomes for those with mental health issues and also for friends and family. Purpose three The benefits which flow from this purpose are increased awareness in the community of the issues leading to depression, self harm, suicide etc and of the facilities available to tackle these problems and also provide help and support of friends and family who have suffered the consequences of mental health breakdown. There is no private benefit to trustees, volunteers or family members. Purpose four The benefits which flow from this purpose are the preservation of life of individuals and restoration of mental health and well being through provision of free, professional counselling services. This is available to all from 12 years upwards who are referred and assessed as being appropriate for the level of counselling available. The benefits are demonstrated by initial and final assessments of all clients, use of CORE and confidential feedback from clients. Trustees or volunteers or their family members are assessed on the same basis as any other referral so there is no private benefit.
