Public benefits
The band has a great deal to offer society and in particular the young people in our local community. It sometimes provides young people with their only other interest, apart from school, especially in rural areas. It offers a safe and inexpensive environment for people to learn how to play a musical instrument as well as promote – health and
fitness, raising self-esteem, leadership skills, working as a team, responsibility and pride in achievement. The band also provides opportunities for members to receive training in Public First Aid, Marshalling Skills, Child Protection, Anti-sectarianism, Anti-racism, Event Management, Risk Assessment, Good relations and Drug and Alcohol awareness Level 1. The musical abilities gained by these young people coupled with the discipline needed to be in a band are skills that can’t be underestimated and is in stark contrast to the young people standing on street corners with no interests generally making a nuisance of themselves. It provides a recognisable focus for family involvement and community recognition. It also creates a greater understanding of Ulster Scots Heritage and helps to build the capacity and confidence of members making them better citizens more actively engaging in civic life. The benefits gained are also transferable to other aspects of their lives improving their job prospects for example. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from membership focus groups as well as feedback from, parents, wider community, statutory and non statutory agencies. There is no harm flowing from the purpose of the Charity. Band members and people of all ages and professions in the Markethill area and environs will benefit from the objectives of the charity. A private benefit may be gained by anyone participating in our training programs because the skills and experience gained are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
