Purpose - to provide sporting activities to people with learning disabilities in the Newry and Mourne. The direct benefit's which flow from this purpose include:- a) enabling people with learning disabilities to lead an active and healthy life by learning and participating in a sport b) to promote athlete independence c) build athlete self
esteem d) reduced levels of stress and anxiety among carers/parents. These benefits are demonstrated through:- a) athletes participating in a sport, aiming to compete in competitions, as well as athletes becoming volunteers with appropriate training/monitoring b) athletes being able to attend training/events with volunteers and coaches as opposed to carers/parents c) athletes achieving acknowledgment of their talents and efforts at events/competition d) carers/parents knowing they are giving their athletes an opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing. This purpose does not lead to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents and carers, and the wider public who are made aware that these athletes do not have limits, only potential. The private benefit that flows from this purposes is that training, qualifications and accreditations achieved by coaches and volunteers can be transferred to other settings.These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

Our organisation provides sports to athletes of all ages, with a learning disability. We currently offer open water swimming, ladies and mens football, bowling and gymnastics to circa 40 athletes, and hope to provide further sports in 2015. We hold weekly training sessions, and our athletes also compete in local leagues/competitions, as well as
taking part in the 4 year SO Ireland games cycle. We are a voluntary organisation, operating under the rules of Special Olympics Ireland/Ulster, with the majority of our volunteers/committee being parents of children Learning disabilities. Our Chairperson/Secretary are non parents as well as some of our coaches/volunteers.
