Public benefits

The Charity provides financial assistance to community groups, youth clubs and cross-community projects. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include relieving the financial pressures on such groups to allow them to develop and continue to provide projects to further their charitable purposes according to the law of Northern Ireland.

These benefits can be evidenced in records kept by the charities that the donations provided have helped to achieve their objects or in instances when restricted grants have been provided, when the project has been completed and a completion report submitted. The possibility of harm, for example physical injury when working with young people, is outweighed by the benefit and is reduced by the policies and procedures which are in place to address such risk, e.g. health and safety policies and risk assessments. The charities beneficiaries are all individual who access the charities who receive donations or grants (whether directly or indirectly from the Charity. The Charity provides financial assistance to other charities that seek to provide relief to those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantages. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose includes providing financial relief to charities which objects are to promote suicide and mental health awareness and to help create a support network for people living with depression or other mental health issues in Northern Ireland. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from individuals who have benefited from the services offered and become ambassadors for the charity. In providing a phone service to assist those in need the advice and support is not always taken. This can impact on volunteers who have taken the call however, the charities also provide support to their volunteers and any potential harm is outweighed by the benefit of the service of providing advice to those in need. Certain beneficiaries are individual’s suffering from depression or other mental health issues. The Charity provides financial assistance to charities that seek to promote and provide arts including music, art and theatre to the people of Northern Ireland. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased opportunities for people to access the arts by providing additional donations and grants to support such charities which are suffering from a reduction in government funding. These benefits are evidenced through audiences attending, actors/actresses performing; photo and video documentation and feedback provided to the Charity when a grant has been provided. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public in Northern Ireland. While the general public may enjoy the performances some charities which receive donations or grants may target individuals with specific skills for example being able to play an instrument to join as a member. A private benefit may flow from the charities which receive a donation or grant if staff are paid to lead projects however the private benefit is incidental and is outweighed by the benefit to the beneficiaries. Finally, the Charity provides financial assistance to charities which objects seek to advance religion. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose includes the advancement of the Christian faith through wide ranging missionary and outreach activities including supporting people for and in Christian mission and in the financial support for the maintenance of Church buildings. The Charities religious element also helps to morally improve society. The charity’s beneficiaries are those who follow or are interested in pursuing Christian values. A private benefit may flow from any donation in providing funding for members to travel for their ministry work but is necessary in the furtherance of that charities purpose.
