Public benefits

The direct benefit which flows from this is increased knowledge, skills and better health among the people of the Aughnagurgan area. In particular the group will advance education, promote the arts and preserve the health of the said people. In particular the group will promote awareness of the culture heritage (including

history,language,music,literature and folklore) of the people of the Ulster Scots community in the Aughnagurgan area and district. Facilities will be provided in the interest of social welfare for education recreation and other leisure time activity with the object of improving the conditions of life of the people of Ulster Scots community who are in need of such facilities as a result of their youth age poverty social or economics circumstances. These benefits will be evidenced through the numbers participating in events and training. We do not see any harm associated with this. There may be some private benefit as skills/ knowledge etc gained may be transferable but this is incidential.

What your organisation does

Aughnagurgan Rural Development Association organise classes such as First Aid, Child Protection, Community Development and Local History for the benefit of all the local community. They also run Old Tyme Dance classes and run these types of dances during the winter mnoths in Aughnagurgan Hall. We have recently bought keep fit equipment and turned a

store room into a gym with a good number of locals taking advantage of this facility. ARDA also provide facilities which are used by an old pensioners club (every Thursday) and Newtownhamilton Young Farmers Club use these facilities to meet and run functions. Local community also use facilities to run birthday parties, fun evenings etc. Every August a fun/sports evening is held and last August up to 1500 people attended. ARDA members are currently practicing for A Strictly Come Dancing event to raise money for Childrens Cancer Charties. This event will attract many hundreds of people for a good cause. Accordian classes take place thoughout the winter months and up tp 20 young people attend these classes.

Charitable purposes

The Group is established to promote the benefit of the Ulster Scots community resident in the Aughnagurgan are by association the statutory authorities voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education promaote the arts and protect and preserve the health of the said people. In particular the group will: Promote awareness of the culture heritage (including history,language,music,literature and folklore) of people of the Ulster Scots community in the Aughnagurgan area. Provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for education,recreation and other leisure time activity with the object of improving the conditions of the life of the people of Ulster Scots community who are in need of such facilities as a result of their youth,poverty,social or economic circumstances. Enable the people of the Ulster Scots community to grow in understanding and confidence in their own cultural heritage that they may be in a position to share on an equitable basis with other traditions. Provide encouragement and practical support services to existing and new organisations whose aims are compatible with the group so as to increase their efficiency and effectiveness.
