Public benefits

Relieve those in need. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include reduced social isolation, improvement of the quality of life for those in need and reduced levels of stress and anxiety and increased mental health among those in need. These benefits are evidenced through attendance at activities such as our senior citizens handicrafts

clubs and gardening, feedback from beneficiaries, independent evaluations of our activities by monitoring and support services such as Supporting Communities NI. There are no private benefits arising from this purpose. Advance environmental protection and improvement and promote village renewal. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improvement of the quality of life for residents, increased visitors to the area, increased volunteer opportunities, increased community pride, reduction of Anti-social behaviour and reduced levels of stress and anxiety among the local community. These benefits are evidenced through an increase in volunteers, feedback from the local community and visitors to the area and a reported decrease in anti-social behaviour. A private benefit to trustees may arise from an increase in value of local property as a result of an increased desirability of the area as a place to live. Provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure time occupations with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improvement of quality of life for residents, increased visitors to the area, reduction of Anti-social behaviour, an increase in safe areas for the local community and reduced levels of stress and anxiety among the local community. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from the local community and visitors to the area, utilisation of the facilities and a reported decrease in anti-social behaviour. A private benefit to trustees may arise from the family of trustees utilising the facilities through community activities or for leisure purposes. Places on activities are assigned on an equal basis to all the community and trustees and their families are subject to the same procedures. Advance education and training and provide information and advice to local inhabitants. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved employability for residents, creation of new or enhanced skills, increased self-confidence, and increased access to training opportunities within a rural setting, increased uptake of mainstream educational services and a reduction in isolation. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from the local community, beneficiaries attending courses, evaluation of projects by tutors and awarding bodies. A private benefit to trustees may arise from the trustee developing skills and experience through this training that may be transferrable to other settings. Promote good community relations, racial harmony and equality and diversity. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved security, social interaction, the sharing of space, better understanding of other cultures for residents, creation of new or enhanced skills, increased self-confidence in meeting and sharing with other cultures and a reduction in isolation. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from the local community, beneficiaries attending courses, evaluation of projects by tutors and awarding bodies. A private benefit to trustees may arise from the trustee developing skills and experience through this training that may be transferrable to other settings. Any private benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. There is no harm arising from any of our purposes. The beneficiaries of our purposes are those living within the area of benefit – Maydown, Enagh and Strathfoyle and environs including the villages of the same name.

What your organisation does

Enagh Seniors Group are a community based charity founded to provide social, educational and environmental activities within the Enagh Wards of Co Londonderry The group lobby statutory bodies such as the local Council, Public Health Agency, Housing Executive. Roads Service and Age NI regarding improvements to the local area. The group is

managed by a committee of who are elected at a public Annual General Meeting on a yearly basis. We provide and participate in activities such as: - Computer Essentials Training - Senior Citizens Handicrafts Club - Health and Wellbeing Projects - Men and Women’s Health Initiatives - Intergenerational activities - Recording Local History and Culture - Community Safety / Crime Prevention, Anti Social Behaviour seminars and projects - Community Fun Days - Environmental Improvements such as green area maintenance, Litter picks street furniture upgrades and flower bed maintenance - Cultural Diversity / Good Relations projects - Cross Community activities including Cross Borders (Cara Sligo) - Best Practice Visits The Association work in partnership with other organisations such as Age N.I., Local Authority Community Relations, Healthy Aging Network in Derry, St. Vincent de Paul in order to ensure that older people within the area receive advice, support and activities in order to improve their quality of life. We are registered with and supported by Supporting Communities N.I.

Charitable purposes

The Enagh Seniors Group is established to: 2.1 relieve poverty, sickness and assist the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Enagh/Maydown Strathfoyle and its environs (hereinafter described as “the area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
