The objects of the company support its purpose in promoting development trusts in NI and in supporting the setting up of a development trust in every community that wants one. The purpose of the company is to advocate on a rights based approach for communities and their charitable representatives to own and manage assets, to undertake enterprise

activity to advance the delivery of services and to build sustainable citizen led democratically accountable organisations. The company will future proof its activities to ensure they align with its charitable purpose. The purposes of the company will benefit the public through an increase in community ownership of assets, an increased delivery of services to meet community defined need and an increase in the number of citizens engaged as democratic participants in the life of their local communities. The benefits are demonstrated through sustaining the membership of Development Trust NI. There is no private benefit and no harm flowing from the purposes of the company. DTNI will promote community ownership, enterprise and asset based community development and regeneration to our members, charitable organisations and public bodies including central government and its executive agencies and non-departmental public bodies and local government DTNI will advocate to public bodies including central government and its executive agencies and non-departmental public bodies and local government for the lease and management and freehold transfer of surplus assets for use and development by incorporated charitable organisations

Charitable purposes

3.1 The objects of the Company are: a) to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of charitable organisations, known as development trusts, and similar in direct pursuit of their objects in such a manner as may be thought fit. b) to advance education of the public in the work of development trusts and similar organisations. c) to advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the directors, may from time to time, decide in accordance with the law of charity in Northern Ireland.
