Public benefits

The public benefits that flow from purpose (1) are: (i) advancement in justice and human rights; (ii) reduction in suffering, stress and anxiety. Paper Trail’s legacy archive research benefits those members of the public who have lost family members or friends during the recent conflict. These individuals and their families benefit as Paper

Trail: - Helps them to identify and access information relating to the family or relevant event. - Supports their campaign for justice by researching and analyzing archives, reports and publications - Helps them liaise with human rights organisations, statutory bodies and legal representatives. There is also a wider public benefit as the information which Paper Trail releases helps inform the historical record, which in turn informs us all. This work also raises awareness of human rights issues by promoting debate and further research. The community also benefits from the store of human knowledge our work supplements and the historical narrative we uncover. The beneficiaries are people who have lost family members or friends in situations of conflict, but lack relevant information about the background and circumstances concerning these events. These benefits can be evidenced through the findings of the research and analysis carried out by Paper Trail and feedback from the beneficiaries. No harm or private gain arises from these purposes. The public benefit that flows from purpose (2) is enhanced knowledge and understanding of the background and circumstances of conflict-related events that occurred during the recent period of hostilities in Northern Ireland and of any other significant events occurring during that period. The beneficiaries are the general public. This benefit can be evidenced through records of research undertaken, the findings of such research and the scope of their dissemination. No harm or private benefit arises from this purpose.
