Public benefits

Castlerock Senior Citizens Wednesday Club Public Benefit Statement The direct benefits which flow from our purpose includes relieving poverty, supporting the sick and aged for the benefit of people living in Castlerock and surrounding areas. Castlerock Senior Citizens Wednesday Club provides a meeting place for those who live on their own to get

together with others to chat and enjoy the social interaction which flows from the meetings. The participants benefit from a variety of activities such as dance, crafts and guest speakers and gain knowledge and new skills from these. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from participants and beneficiaries, increased membership and also by the level of uptake of our activities. The purposes of our charity will not lead to any harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are older people living in Castlerock and surrounding areas. We measure our benefit through registrations sheets, feedback forms, and other records of our events and activities. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of on-going training. Through this training a trustee or volunteers may gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Castlerock Senior Citizens Wednesday Club operates on Wednesday throughout the year providing a programme of activities for older people aged over 50 years of age. The club provides older people with a place to meet. We currently have approx. 50 members attending our group. Our yearly programme includes therapeutic craft activities that complement the dance and physical activity sessions that are on-going throughout the year. We continually work to enhance the overall health and wellbeing of members, both new and old and thus improving the quality of life for older people in Castlerock and surrounding areas. No harm arises from the delivery of our public benefit as all of our activities are well-thought out, planned and risk assessed and all necessary insurances, checks and policies are in place and adhered to under the supervision of our Chairperson and the Trustees of the organisation.

What your organisation does

The public benefit which flows from our activities is the alleviation of poverty and improved health and well-being outcomes which are achieved through the activities which we organise. We are a voluntary committee who all make a contribution of our time to meet the aims and objectives of the club. We organise a range of activities which are

specifically designed to meet these objectives through social and learning activities. We also remove barriers to engagement with our club by providing information on local transport and ensuring that all of our activities are provided at a low cost. Membership is open to all members of the public over the age of 60yrs in the area of benefit and we work proactively to ensure that everyone knows about the club and will feel welcome to attend. In order to meet our aims and objects some members of the club do undertake training which creates a transferable skill however we would not be able to undertake our activities without training our volunteers so the public benefit outweighs any private gain. Volunteers do participate in all activities but they make the same contribution as other beneficiaries to ensure that there is no perception of any gain. Volunteers give their time and often their skills and resources for the greater good of the success of the group.
