Public benefits

Purpose 1: The public benefit flowing from purpose 1 is improving the general health of users through providing a safe, comfortable, supervised environment where they can express themselves and have a social outlet. Through our activities this purpose will improve general health to achieve improved aerobic capacity and weight loss amongst other

attributes, as well as improving mental health through being active and involved in Sport. Purpose 2: We provide public benefit through increasing skills of users through activities and services. Especially amongst children and young people, our activities aim to improve fundamental movement’s skills such as hand eye co-ordination, mobility, throwing, catching, ball control, running and jumping; skills which can all be transferred to different sports and tasks. Throughout all ages, our volunteers aim to develop an overarching ethos of respect, teamwork and dedication which all contribute to the psychological and social development of users. The learning and improvement of these skills breeds confidence, especially for children and young people who will continue an active lifestyle. The skills are transferable and can be applied in other sporting, social, educational or environments later in life. Purpose 3: We provide public benefit through providing pathways for children and young people who are involved in local schools, community groups and statutory organisations to take part in association football through specific programmes and events. For example in 2014 we ran a programme in association with “Hands That Talk” for the deaf community to participate in football activities over a 4 week period; they also were able to undergo a coach education course run by the Irish Football Association through the project. These relationships increase access to amateur sport, they provide access for children who like sport to take part in other arts, culture, education based activities, they increase community cohesion within Dungiven. Purpose 4: We provide a public benefit through promoting equality and diversity, as well as promoting religious and racial harmony throughout all our activities; this achieved through bringing people together through the common interest of association football, in a safe, comfortable environment. Through breaking down these barrier and changing perceptions we are benefitting the wider community through an acceptance of all cultures and religions. There is no harm flowing from Dungiven Celtic Youth FC purposes. There is no private benefit flowing from Dungiven Celtic Youth FC purposes.

What your organisation does

Dungiven Celtic Youth FC runs a number of programmes for children between the ages of 5-17 years old to take part in football. The organisations core activities and services are providing facilities for children and young people to take part in Sport, these activities vary depending on availability of facilities within the locality; however we hold

a minimum of one night provision for all age groups. During winter months we hire Dungiven Leisure Centre, Curragh Road Floodlight all-weather stones, Gortnaghy Playing Fields, Claudy Floodlight 3G, Limavady 3G and Ballyguddin playing fields. Some of these facilities are outside of Dungiven, which means we require transport. These sessions include development of fundamental movement skills, development of physical literacy, mobility and skills. We have 15 teams who represent Dungiven Celtic Youth FC including a dedicated girl’s team at Under 8 level; these teams range from U8 to U17 and play in the North West and Coleraine District Youth League and the Coleraine Youth League respectively. We intermittently cater for approximately 180 children and young people through these services. Additional to core activities, Dungiven Celtic Youth FC offer seasonal coaching (summer camps), cross community events and fun day’s; throughout programmes we often include education elements through facilitated information and awareness sessions. We work in partnership with local community organisations to offer pathways to take part in Sport. We also aim to offer opportunities for coaches and volunteers to become qualified, educated and active within society. All volunteers are educated with a minimum of first aid, child protection and Access NI. We are an all inclusive organisation who offers opportunities for all regardless of ability, gender, race or social background.
