The objective advances the Arts and Culture and heritage of the area by increasing appreciation of built heritage architecture and its artistic and heritage value. The education will contribute to appreciation of the environmental value of built heritage. Four: the advancement of citizenship and community development through enabling the community to benefit from the preservation, and improvement of features in the area and enhancing the environment of Belfast. The community will be involved in enhancing their area through input into planning architectural design. The objective advances the Arts and heritage through input into planning to preserve the built heritage of the area. The objective is advancement of education in the planning and architecture of the area as the preservation and improvement of historic features involves education of the value of such features. Five: The advancement of the Arts, culture and heritage involves the advancement of citizenship and community development through enhancing the environment of Belfast . The community will be involved in enhancing their area through input into architectural design. The objective advances the Arts and heritage through input into planning to preserve the built heritage of the area. The objective is within the charitable objective of advancement of education in the planning and architecture of the area. Six: the advancement of environmental protection and improvement enhances the environment of Belfast. The community will be involved in enhancing their area through input into planning and architectural design. The objective advances the Arts and heritage through input into planning to preserve the built heritage of the area. The objective is within the charitable objective of advancement of education in that advancement of environmental protection advances the appreciation of the value of the built and historic environment for the benefit of the public generally. Seven: involves the charitable objective of advancement of education in the architecture and history of the area. The above advances citizenship and community development in that it enables citizens and the community to appreciate the value of architecture and history as a wealth creator for the benefit of the environment.

What your organisation does

The Belfast Civic Trust comments on planning applications in particular on matters relating to the preservation of historic and architecturally important buildings in the Belfast Area. It also comments on matters of design of new buildings. For example it commented and liaised with the architects of the Victoria Square Shopping development in

Belfast in relation to the design and development of the development. It was for example involved in liaison with planners on the preservation of the Frames complex and Athletic Stores buildings in the city centre. The Belfast Civic Trust has held exhibitions on the 'Story of Belfast' which includes the history of the architecture of the city. It convenes talks on the development of heritage buildings of the city and runs bus and walking tours of the city's architectural heritage (including EU open heritage tour). It also helps organise and support events relating to the heritage of the city.

Charitable purposes

The Company is established for the public benefit for the following purposes in the area comprising Belfast and its neighbouring area and surrounding environment including the Belfast metropolitan area . The objects of the Company are restricted to: (i) The advancement of citizenship and community development. (ii) To promote high standards of planning and architecture in or affecting the area of benefit. (iii) To educate the public in the geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area of benefit. (iv) To secure the preservation protection development and improvement of features of historic or pubic interest in the area of benefit. (v) To advance the arts, culture and heritage in the area of benefit. (vi) To advance environmental protection and improvement in the area of benefit. (vii) To advance education on architecture and the environment and history in the area of benefit.
