Public benefits

Our charitable purpose is the advancement of peace and reconciliation for the benefit of the public and the promotion of religious harmony, equality and diversity. Our beneficiaries are young people from different religious backgrounds but mainly from catholic and protestant backgrounds living in socially and economically deprived areas in Belfast.

The direct benefit which flows from our charitable purpose is that young people from different backgrounds learn to have a better understanding of each other which in turn should promote tolerance among different communities and lead to a more harmonious and peaceful society where diversity is respected. Young people say they learn more about themselves, are more confident, and learned more about other cultures here and abroad. Through the various facilitated workshops, outings and residential, the young people are continually encouraged to explore what they are learning about each other. After the final outing, which is a trip to Kansas in the USA, there is a final evaluation with all the participants to share the learning. The young people get the opportunity to meet again at Christmas. To date there has been no private benefit and no anticipated harm to anyone. Activities We have a selection process initially to choose an equal number of young people from different backgrounds. Then follows a series of facilitated workshops and residential exploring community relations and our political history which the young people have the opportunity to explore identities and learn from each other. The group then go on a trip to Kansas city which they must fundraise for. After the final trip there is a group evaluation which explores their learning from the whole process.
