Public benefits

The advancement of education: • To provide free facilities, training and educational courses and development programmes to the residents of the Obins area of Portadown and its environs. The direct benefits which flow from the advancement of education include; • Enhanced education and understanding, increased skills and knowledge base, enhanced

mobility of labour and employment capacity of residents of Obins area and family members • Improved and/or enhanced employability and economic prospects through the advancement of career and employment opportunities of residents of Obins area and family members. • Reduced stress and worry, and improved outlook of residents of Obins area and family members • Assist disadvantaged children from intercultural backgrounds to develop their personality and character to their full potential, become independent, self-confident and more able to cope in school • a creative writing group to encourage adult education and job creation through publications • the promotion of crafts and craftsmanship • Provide facilities, free for personal, social, cultural and educational benefit To provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for the protection of health and for recreation: • To provide free facilities, training and educational courses and development programmes to the residents of the Obins area of Portadown and its environs. • To provide free programmes, events and activities supporting cross community relationships and reconciliation for the residents of the Obins area and district area of Portadown and its environs. The direct benefits which flow from the advancement of health include; • Reduced anxieties and stress and anti-social behaviour • Reduced sense of alienation and disconnection • Improved social and family reintegration • Improved mental and emotional health by providing referral to progressive options and/or support services • Enhanced potential for the personal development of beneficiaries by providing referral to advice, training and education services • Improving beneficiaries mental and emotional health by providing a network of referral pathways and working partnerships with all relevant health, statutory and community support services • Improved health and fitness through the provision of programmes, events and activities supporting personal development, health promotion, and healthy living • Increased awareness of health issues and healthy living • Enhanced confidence and self-esteem, • Enhanced personal, inter-community and cross community development These benefits are evidenced through feedback from beneficiaries, participation evaluation forms, the maintaining of statistical data, beneficiary files detailing achievements and progression routes, staff and management monthly and annual reports, regular independent evaluations. By promoting and carrying out, or assist in promoting and carrying out research, surveys and investigations into the needs and experiences of the residents of Obins area and their families and publish for AGM. There is no harm or possibility of harm arising from these purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are the residents of Obins area and their families and district area of Portadown and its environs. Trustees receive private incidental benefit by their experience of managing an organisation providing services. They enhance their skills and organizational abilities by their participation. They also receive private benefit in that they can attend conferences or events organized by the Bannside Community Group which are open to all.

What your organisation does

Bannside Community Group provides facilities, and a free, private and confidential service for the benefit of the Inhabitants of the Obins area of Portadown and surrounding areas and its environs. Our main areas of work are: Therapeutic Support / Psychotherapy: assists with referrals from local social services, GP’s, schools etc to supports

children, adolescents, families and adults through 600 individual sessions of psychotherapy. Housing / Environment: Assisted 270 residents by facilitating contacts and meetings with the NIHE, local home owners, local Council and other organisation’s and agencies on Housing and Environmental issues. Reconciliation through Respect for Cultural Difference: Hosting 16 sessions of 'Cultural Sharing Workshops' which helped 320 people towards understanding each other's cultures, fears and beliefs. Community & Adult learning: 384 people availed of basic computer skills, enabling participants to do internet shopping, banking and social networking. Bannside Scribblers: a creative writing group which met 32 times last year to encourage adult education and job creation and has produced publications used by SHSST as training for Dementia carers. Arts and Crafts: Facilitated 64 sessions of activities that included armchair aerobics, basic fitness, quilts, cards, sculpture, stained glass, knitting, embroidery, crochet and outings. Homework Group: Assists 48 disadvantaged children from intercultural backgrounds through 64 sessions to develop their personality and character to become self-confident and more able to cope with school and study. Sarah's Circle facilitates 12 sessions for women to come together to explore women’s issues and spiritual growth.

Charitable purposes

The Group is established to promote the benefits of the inhabitants of the Obins area of Portadown and surrounding areas, its environs (hereafter described as "the area of benefit") without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating to the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for the protection of health and for recreation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
