direct benefits to the children are personal, social and emotional development, building self-esteem and confidence, developing a love for outdoors and the environment around them. Mixing with other children and learning in a safe place. This is achieved through a wide range of planned activities. 2.Purpose: To promote other leisure time activities for young people, men, women, older people, people with disabilities, unemployed and the rurally isolated, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants in the surrounding environs of County Londonderry(hereinafter called the ‘area of benefit’) without distinction of age, gender, race, political, religious or other opinion. The direct benefits to local residents is to reduce social isolation, provide opportunities to engage in learning activities suitable to their needs, improving employability, increase confidence, inclusion in the community, an increase in healthy eating and exercise and reduce levels of stress and anxiety. These benefits are evident by the attendance records and verbal feedback at the various classes/activities that we offer such as yoga, over 60’s club, gardening club and ICT classes. 3. Purpose: To establish and secure the development of a Nurturing Families Centre (hereinafter called the centre) to provide pre-school provision, educational, environmental and recreational facilities and activities in the furtherance of the above objects. The direct benefits for local residents are an opportunity to use the centre for classes and courses, to gain skills and to meet other people and reduce isolation in our rural area. It also allows our young children an opportunity to learn and develop in a structured setting. Our centre is affordable and accessible and is at the heart of the community.

What your organisation does

Little Rascals Community Playgroup has 4 members of Staff and 3 volunteers all of which are vetted by Foyle Health and Social Services Trust and by the Police Service for Northern Ireland before they can commence employment. All staff have completed Access NI. We provide daily activities based on the six areas of learning. Our playgroup is run by

an elected committee which ensures that major decision-making is in the hands of Parents/Guardians who use the playgroup. This committee is elected at our Annual General Meeting. At this meeting policies are amended and adopted. Committee meetings are then held monthly. Little Rascals Community Playgroup works in partnership with Early Years, Social Services, W.E.L.B, local organisations, and Limavady Borough Council. We also provide a monthly newsletter for the parents of the playgroup detailing our theme for the month, holiday dates for that month, a wish list and details of any upcoming events. We also produce a monthly newsletter for all the community detailing courses/classes/events within the community.
