Public benefits

A direct and demonstrable benefit of the stated purpose of advancing education by the production of educational plays is the bringing of literature in the form of dramatic art to the attention of the general population of the area and further afield. Many such plays emanate from the lexicon of playwrights with a recognised national or

international repute. By this means the intrinsic quality of such plays are brought to the consideration and scrutiny of the public in Armagh and it’s environs. The staging of plays through the varying mediums of drama, mime, music etc is in itself an encouragement of the Arts generally. Theatrical performance is diverse inspiring different interpretations and thus stimulating discussion and discourse leading to an enhanced public awareness and insight into various issues. This is evidenced by constant feed-back from our audiences in the aftermath of our productions. In order to attract as large a gathering as possible to a presentation we liaise with the local Council and schools, as appropriate, especially in the latter instance if a play happens to be relevant to the curriculum. We actively offer our services to other organisations who might seek to stage some type of theatrical performance in order to cater to their own patrons but by so doing we bring the informative value of performance to an even greater number. A more recent development in the furtherance of our objectives has been participation in “Culture Ireland” where cultural events are staged free of charge to the local community. This has provided the opportunity to focus on material of a particularly local interest from the perspective of seeking to preserve the local heritage. By its very nature ie an amateur drama club, we offer the opportunity for anyone in the general population to participate both on and behind stage in drama productions and in so doing enhance their wellbeing and appreciation of the arts. Overall we feel that all of our activities designed to further our purposes reflect an appreciation of the role we play in the wider community by inspiring and inculcating a sense of belonging. The purpose for which the charity is established is to advance the education of the general public by the production of theatre and plays. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are: • Enhancement and wellbeing and appreciation of the Arts • The enjoyment and better understanding of the Arts • Expanding the educational and learning experience through the medium of live theatrical performance These benefits are evidenced through: • Regular feedback from audiences • Photo/video documentation There is no harm arising out of our purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are: • Primarily members of the public in Armagh City and its environs but extending further afield when touring certain productions. There is no private benefit flowing from our purpose.
