However, this is necessary in order to have a point of contact, to have a training space and to have the work carried out in an acceptable fashion. What your organisation does

Expac North aims primarily to focus on two themes in order to fulfil its overall objectives: 1) Conflict resolution workshops 2) Communication training. Conflict resolution workshops. The overall aims of this programme are: •To give participants both an overview & an insight into the underlying causes of conflict •To help develop a culture of

justice & human rights •To better equip citizens to play an active role in peace-building Expac North has devised a programme to address the need for different communities to understand the views and opinions of others in Northern Ireland. The programme sets out to allow people to build their understanding of and explore the reasons for conflict, and to then set then within a context that can be addressed positively and peacefully. The programme is workshop based and aims to enable participants to reach a more sympathetic understanding of all those affected by armed conflict. The programme involved the delivery of 8 modules. Each module comprises a DVD, visiting speaker(s), and facilitated conflict resolution training. Modules were mostly delivered on a weekly basis over 8 weeks, but occasionally on a less frequent basis over a longer time span. Communications training. The overall aims of this programme is: Building confidence within marginalised communities in their ability to articulately publicise and promote an understanding of their circumstances and needs and thereby defuse anger and alienation in order to better promote conflict resolution and promote citizenship. To do so, Expac North has developed a project that encourages isolated and/or marginalised communities create their own cost-effective communications medium and thereafter trains people at community level in the use of the medium and how to effectively communicate with wider society. Modern digital technology makes it possible, feasible and economical to address this form of isolation and this is at the core of this aspect of Expac North’s endeavours
