Purpose 1 Youthworks To involve young people (9-25yr olds) in discovering and living out their full potential and to develop supportive initiatives to provide: 1. leisure and healthy lifestyle activities 2. Social developmental programmes. 3. a dedicated meeting place co-managed by young people. 4. dedicated and trained staff and

volunteers. 5. Improving attitudes and resilience through mentoring and program work. The Benefits? The social, physical, emotional and spiritual development of young people who participate, and in those who lead programs and activities. Increased resilience through leadership development, encouragement, mentoring and empowerment of participants, and other specialist programs including stress management, CBT, and counselling. Partnerships with local secondary and primary schools, churches, the local boxing club and other community groups will allow young people and children to develop core aspects of citizenship. Engagement with those of different backgrounds and cultures, will expand equality and moral values and beliefs. Achievement standards and personal goals will be recognized. Purpose 2 Accommodation To provide a modern, comfortable and inviting meeting place at the centre of the Monkstown Community. To ensure all people regardless of belief, nationality, sexuality, personal circumstances or culture feel welcome and supported. To support other community groups by providing accommodation and facilities for regular and ad hoc activities. To organise events to allow engagement of local people and develop community life. The Benefits? Attending a modern, comfortable and supportive meeting place encourages a sense of worth and inclusion. Within a social economy project, MVI lease accommodation on the first floor on a regular and ad hoc basis and facilitate other community groups promoting effective use of assets. Leisure and keep fit activities encourage people to feel good and build useful skills. A thriving village atmosphere is created encouraging integration and participation. Purpose 3 re:think/re:act To develop and provide mental health promotion and support programmes 1. Provision of advice and support to individuals and groups on mental health promotion. 2. Normalising stress, depression, and anxiety and teaching stress management techniques through group classes. 3. Open access to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for individuals experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The Benefits? Greater understanding of how to develop robust mental health. Greater awareness of mental health difficulties. Targeted support for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. Acquisition of skills and techniques to overcome/manage mental health difficulties, allowing individuals to take a more productive role in work, family and community life. Individuals supported to make healthy life choices. Attendees at group courses will be asked for feedback. Individual clients will be asked to complete a questionnaire before and after therapy. Risk of harm will be minimised by the engagement of a qualified therapist in developing and presenting all programmes. Can you demonstrate these purposes? The weekly footfall attending community activities is monitored at c.600 people. We will continue to monitor attendances and involvement levels for all our activities. Who benefit? Our services for children, young people and adults will continue to be available in Monkstown, the greater Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus, and the North Belfast area. Our programmes will be open to all sections of the community especially those who are the most in need. Any private benefit by participation in any programme/ activity is incidental. What your organisation does

Monkstown Village Initiatives Our 6 directors (all non-paid) bring a range of interests/skills to the organisation including, but not restricted to: finance; environment; IT; health; security; retail; youth management; and church. Our Upper Rooms suite provides accommodation and facilitate 12 other user organisations and have a consistent weekly

footfall of around 600 people to activities for adults, young people and children. These activities provide opportunities in leisure, fitness, interest and support. MVI Youth Works (the Green Hut) delivers junior and senior drop-ins, project and development programmes primarily aimed at 9-25 year olds. We have developed various programmes to meet the needs of local school pupils e.g. 'Understanding communities' and Youth Stress BEAT mental health programme. These are integrated with mentoring and CBT opportunities and are being delivered pupils in Hollybank Primary (P5 & P6) and Abbey Community College (ACC). re:think/re:act is our Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) service. One-to-one Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is ongoing, providing support to individuals who are experiencing mental health difficulties. Flourish is our wellbeing group for those aged 60+ and facilitated through the re:think/re:act service with the main aim of promoting mental wellbeing. For the past number of years we have partnered with the NHSCT to deliver six StressControl classes, twice a year, in three venues locally. Monkstown Village Garden is a project that was set up to provide learning and development skills to young people and adults from different backgrounds, abilities, and cultures. Included in the garden area are two large polytunnels and 16 outdoor raised beds with inclusive access. We have hosted a number of garden craft days for people of all ages and abilities and have assisted student groups from ACC to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh Citizen Award.

Charitable purposes

The objects of the Company are for the relief of suffering and distress, the advancement of education and the protection of health; and in particular to provide for the public, in the Monkstown Area and its environs of Newtownabbey, care facilities in the interest of social welfare, recreation, spiritual development and leisure-time occupation for people who by reason of their social and economic circumstances have need for such facilities.
