Public benefits

Purpose 1: To promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of women and their families from the Greater Shankill area of Belfast and near-by North & West Belfast through the advancement of education. Benefits that flow from this purpose: An increase educational attainment and training progression through the provision of community education and

training opportunities both accredited and non-accredited. We support participants through specific support systems such as Learner Support Worker, guidance and support from staff team. Additional provision of support services such as counselling, debt management, better-off calculations, legal clinic and advice clinic compliment these benefits. This benefit can be demonstrated through the number of participants taking part in, completing and gaining a recognised qualification, through feedback and evaluation forms, focus groups, consultation, through demand for future programmes and classes. No harm is connected to this provision. Purpose 2: Protection of health for the benefit of women and their families from the Greater Shankill area of Belfast and near-by North & West Belfast through health related programmes. Benefits that flow from this purpose: An increased awareness of mental health issues, a reduction of mental health related issues, a reduction in levels of obesity and weight/mobility issues, increased levels of active women, increased levels of confidence and self-esteem, a reduction in levels of social isolation, increased community cohesion through relationships built. This benefit can be demonstrated through the number of participants taking part in and completing classes, through feedback and evaluation forms, focus groups, consultation, through demand for future programmes and services. There is no harm connected to this provision. Purpose 3: The relief of those in need by reason of youth through the provision of specific youth related educational programmes to young people from the Greater Shankill area and near-by North and West Belfast. Benefits that flow from this purpose: An increase in educational attainment amongst young people, increased levels of personal development (inc. confidence and self-esteem), higher levels of understanding issues affecting young people leading to better relationships with their peers. A reduction in unwanted teenage pregnancies, reduction in anti-social behaviours, reduction in negative relationships with both adults and their peers, an increase in Life Skills gained by young people. This benefit can be demonstrated through the number of young people taking part in youth related programmes, gaining recognised qualifications (OCN), youth consultations, focus groups, individual feedback forms and evaluations. What your organisation does

We tackle the issues affecting our beneficiaries through the provision of a purpose built Women's Centre, which provides drop-in area, training rooms, ICT suite and childcare unit. Our programmes include: Education: We deliver a wide timetable of educational classes (Level 1, 2 and 3) and training opportunities ranging from essential skills to

GCSE and vocational programmes such as classroom assistant and counselling levels 2/3.We also work with learners looking for employment, they will be assisted with job search, application forms, interview techniques, links to employers and direct route to employment courses. Health: We deliver a wide specific health related timetable of programmes ranging from mental health classes, mental health awareness, social isolation classes e.g. craft/crocheting/painting & drawing, walking group and dancercise. Youth: We deliver a specific youth based project which includes personal development, life skills, unplanned teenage pregnancy, relationships ,peer education, outdoor activities and sexual health. This project has 5 youth workers who respond to the needs of clients and can design and create specific programmes in relation to expressed needs. Change Makers project is designed to teach women to become more politically aware. Network project is designed to bring women together from communities across North and West Belfast to respond to topical issues concerning them. All our projects are cross community and are open to women from all backgrounds Childcare: We provide care for children aged 0-4. These children benefit from a structure programme of learning and play connected to the High Scope Programme and Early Years Media Initiative.

Charitable purposes

The Company is established for the relief of suffering and distress, the advancement of education and the protection of health; and in particular the provide in the Lower Shankill area of Belfast ("the area of benefit") facilities in the interests of social welfare for the education, recreation and leisure time occupation of women who by reason of social economic circumstances have need of such facilities.
