Public benefits

The Direct Benefits which flow from the purposes include helping people cope with their illnesses due to the unity of meeting others in similar or worse circumstances, the thought / feeling that someone else is thinking about them in their times of need, in terms of being asked to go to Lourdes by the Parish Committee, financially helping people

who otherwise would not be able to go to Lourdres for reasons of being out of work for e.g. due to their illness and a spiritual uplift by being able to visit Lourdes. The Direct Benefits are capable of being demonstrated, proven or evidenced by people within the community having access and ability to travel to Lourdes, fulfilling religious / spiritual beliefs and a sense of relief from their illness through the belief in their faith and by being in Lourdes. The travel to Lourdres would be the biggest risk/harm which could arise due to the number of sick individuals travelling, however, this is outweighed by the number of medical individuals and helpers who travel along with the sick and their family members. There are also procedures in place before someone can be allocated a place: Visited by a nurse of the parish, the nurse will fill out forms which go to the individuals GP and then they verify that they are ok to go to Lourdes, then the forms go to a doctor on the Lourdes executive and along with a head nurse they then verify on this basis to the best of their ability. Children must travel with a parent/guardian, elderly people are always asked to travel with a family member. Procedures are linked to The Dromore Dioceses safeguarding facility. 40+ nurses, 6 doctors, 120 + general/voluntary workers and the Lourdes hospital staff will be in place to look after 120 sick who will go from The Dromore Dioceses every year – Saval Lourdes will send 3-6 sick individuals each year. Private companies such as travel agents, airlines, bus/coach companies benefit from the travel to and from Lourdes, however, without such companies the individuals would be unable to travel, therefore these are incidental in carrying out the purpose of the charity and are not funding the private companies. Fees are not directly charged and fundraising is in place in order to fund taking individuals to Lourdes. The individuals are selected by their needs and not by their ability to pay fees.
