What your organisation does

Our aims are to: Promote the concept and practice of active ageing Create an effective platform for the participation of older people Combat ageism and improve the quality of life opportunities for older people. Southern Age Well Network is an umbrella organisation supporting 64 older people's groups across Newry & Mourne, fostering the development

of a vibrant, coordinated movement of senior citizens groups, thereby enhancing opportunities and services. We provide direct support to these groups with operational issues and promote good governance. We also assist these groups with improving the quality and range of recreational, social and cultural activities for their members. We support them by offering training to group volunteers and members around capacity building, programme planning and developing fundraising strategies. The organisation represents the views of senior citizens in Newry & Mourne to public agencies and private concerns on issues which impinge on their quality of life. The Network affiliates to and works in partnership, strategically and operationally, with organisations with similar aims and objectives. The organisation lobbies on behalf of its membership. We have an active management committee drawn from local older people's groups which represent Southern Age Well Network on a variety of Age Sector bodies. Our management committee meet monthly and act as a conduit between the organisation and members. Minutes of these meetings are circulated to all member groups. In addition we provide information to groups through a monthly mail shot, events including AGM, consultative and training workshops, through local media sources and our website. lobby on behalf of these groups.
