Public benefits

The public benefit flowing from our purposes are that Maghera Community Forum organises and facilitates a series of annual events, community festivals and community activities run on a cross community, cross cultural basis. Their international dance festival encourages participation from the local ethnic community and encourages them to mix with

local people to demonstrate their culture and to gain a better understanding of our own local culture. The local inhabitants of Maghera of all ages benefit from events organised on their behalf. They have an opportunity to engage in and be involved in diverse culture activities. Local talent has an opportunity to showcase their skills. Children are particularly encouraged to get involved and all events are planned and promoted as family friendly activities. The events are well organised, well stewarded in association with the local PSNI and other statutory agencies. The local Council benefits by being able to assist the Maghera Community Forum to do important social activities at a local level. All of the member groups have an opportunity of showcasing what they do and the local traders benefit from the foot fall which these events bring to a small rural market town in Maghera. These benefits are measured by the number of events promoted each year, the number of local groups participating, attendance at all community events. People are encouraged to complete evaluation sheets and the group strives to get as much feedback as possible both from the general public and from the member organisations. Where funding is received from statutory organisations evaluations are a necessary part of the funding package. There is no private benefit from these activities except for when individual performers particularly international artists are paid for their services. All members of Maghera Community Forum work as volunteers for the good of the community and do not expect private benefit. There is no harm flowing from any of the above activities.

What your organisation does

The Forum develops a range of community events to include dance and music festivals, walking festivals,

youth football events, historical events, young band performances and international dance artists. Our aim is to increase public awareness of the historical and cultural importance to showcase the skills and talents of local artists and performers of all ages. We aim to develop and maintain a thriving and vibrant community where people from different cultural backgrounds and from a range of nationalities have the opportunity to meet together , share skills and experience, learn tolerance and acceptance and respect for diversity of cultures and traditions.
