Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from our purpose include those that arise from religious belief, improved character and self-confidence, and the health benefits of sporting activity. Sport is popular all around the world, bringing people together irrespective of religion, race and class, and provides a common ground where they will make friends and
build relationships. The sport provides us with a platform to share the Good News that has changed our lives in a positive and non-threatening way. We provide a positive and safe environment for those we coach, our coaching is always fun and our programmes build character, instil discipline, teach the value of teamwork and prepare young people to be good citizens. We work alongside other organisations such as the church and BBs to help them to become more relevant to the communities around them. Obesity rates in the UK are at an all-time high, and sport plays a key factor in reducing this. These benefits are demonstrated through the personal testimonies of hundreds of people who have been involved with Ambassadors over the last 10 years in Northern Ireland, and of the churches and organisations that we have partnered with. We also have the testimonies of 25 years of experience in Sports ministry from our colleagues overseas. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public, but in particular people and families who live close to our weekly programmes. We believe there are no private benefits to our charity's work.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
We provide a variety of sports (mainly football) related activities for adults and children. A primary purpose of these programmes is the opportunity to build relationships with the participants and ultimately share the Christian gospel and teachings with them, in order to bring people to faith in Jesus Christ and to build up the faith of those
who are already Christians. Our youth programmes include coaching football in churches, schools, youth clubs, BBs (Boys Brigade) and GBs (Girls Brigade), and running week-long football camps in partnership with churches. In addition to coaching these programmes include times of Bible study, prayer, and encouragement to apply general Christian principles such as fairness and sporting behaviour both on and off the pitch. Our adult programmes include men’s and women’s teams, organising leagues and tournaments, organising mission trips both within Ireland and overseas, and training individuals in sports ministry, as well as other one-off events. Times of Bible study, prayer and personal testimony form an integral part of our adult programmes, along with general fellowship.
