Public benefits
The public benefit of the 1608 Royal School Trust is the advancement of education through collaborative inter-school activities of the five Royal schools of Ulster and thereby advance the education of the pupils at the Royal Schools. These collaborative activities engage pupils in inter-school and cross-border forums including debating, cross
country, rugby, hockey, Scripture Union etc and allows them to meet in activities outside their normal school and classroom environment. The 1608 Royal Schools Trust has evidenced an increased participation rate when all five schools run joint ventures through the Trust. This in itself increases cross community relations which may not otherwise be addressed at an individual school level. Benefits are identifiable through increasing diversity of activities available to all pupils which are not readily available at an individual school. Charitable work is also undertaken to build and fund a new school in Uganda – The Royal Bethal School, Uganda. The Trust will also advance the education of pupils and the public in the history, heritage and ethos of the five Royal Schools’ of Ulster. No private benefit has been identified in connection with the Trust nor have the purposes been deemed to lead to any harm.
