Public benefits

The Clady Cross Community Development Association meets the public benefit requirement by providing a base and a range of activities, events, facilities and services and thereby benefits the inhabitants of Clady and the wider community. Direct benefits flowing from purposes in our constitution are increased social inclusion, community

participation, acquiring additional skills, raised self esteem, enhanced quality of life. Residents also experience through engagement a degree of improved physical and mental health and wellbeing. The benefits are demonstrated through feedback both verbal and written, completed evaluations and attendance records. By participating in the "Inspiring Impact NI" course we will improve in this area. Some of the activities organised and provided at the centre have an educative purpose. They contribute to the ideal of lifelong learning. For instance among our older members the revival of ancient crafts as well as learning new skills, creating mosaics, becoming silver surfers. And the provision of safety and healthy living programmes for our youth. Benefits are demonstrated through feedback and completed evaluations. Being a border community and an area still showing the scars and neglect of troubled times our focus is naturally on the development aspect. Clady and district recently benefited from participation in a cross border initiative (Riverlinks) which provided some additional amenities and enhanced the appearance of the area thus increasing civic pride, an advancement of citizenship. Our community was recently granted a Village Plan highlighting achievable goals and improvements for all the community. Now with the involvement and cooperation of the statutory bodies, voluntary organisations and all our inhabitants, both cross community and cross border, we must source the necessary funding to achieve our objectives and realise our vision. The wider community benefits from the representation and participation of our association on a number of different committees, articulating our concerns and ensuring that we have a voice and that our needs and issues are being listened to and hopefully met. This further empowers us to have an impact on decisions being made which affect our community. There is no apparent private benefit which flows from the purposes of this charity. Opportunities for training in areas of governance, project management and fundraising are provided for the volunteers to improve their service within the charity and to the community. There is no harm or the possibility of harm flowing from these purposes or this charity.

What your organisation does

We provide a varied range of activities and services for the use and benefit of the Clady and district community. The Association endeavours to serve both the locals and wider community through our centre being used as an outreach facility to tackle specific issues e.g. health, education and the environment. This increases the services available

within the area. We are currently involved in resurrecting community allotments and green space come nature reserve for family use. We are the lead partner in a wide ranging project called the Finn Foyle Network, and it is hoped through working with statutory agencies and funding bodies it will enable us to develop one of our major assets, namely the river Finn and its banks, and the village burn. An inspiration for us in this respect is the Lagan Towpath. The organisation has recently completed a village plan which has identified a number of projects. We intend to identify funding, programmes or grants to maximise the aims and objectives of this plan.
