Public benefits

Purpose 1 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include reduced social isolation, improved mental health and increased access to resources pertinent to trans youth. These benefits will be demonstrated through regular feedback from service users and from independent monitoring through the Northern Ireland Trans Forum, the UK National

Trans Youth Network and other regional and national bodies. These benefits will also be demonstrated through annual reporting and input from other trans support organisations and healthcare trusts. In developing a community of young individuals, there is a small risk of child protection issues arising. However, with strong child & vulnerable adult protection policy, and appropriate checks on involved volunteers, this risk is outweighed by the benefit to the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries of this purpose are young people living in Northern Ireland who identify as transgender, gender variant and/or intersex, and those who are questioning their gender identity. A private benefit to trustees may arise through involvement with supporting trans youth directly, amounting to skills in community development, risk management and mental health protection. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose 2 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved accessibility of general and transition healthcare, improved mental health, increased visibility of trans issues among education providers and better professional and academic outcomes of trans youth. These benefits will be demonstrated through regular feedback from service users and from independent strategic input on advocacy campaigns from the Northern Ireland Trans Forum and other UK trans advocacy organisations. These benefits which relate to improved health will be assessed using service user surveys and input from Health & Social Care NI through the Northern Ireland Trans Forum and the Northern Ireland LGBT Consultative Forum. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are young people living in Northern Ireland who identify as transgender, gender variant and/or intersex, and those who are questioning their gender identity. A private benefit to trustees may arise through our involvement with healthcare and education providers and local governments amounting to skills in advocacy, campaigning and policymaking. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose 3 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved inclusion, stronger protective policy and legislation, increased access to public office and professional positions and the eradication of transphobia throughout Northern Ireland. These benefits will be demonstrated through reports produced by these organisations with regards to their obligations under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act where applicable in addition to internal equality monitoring reports, and an annual report produced by us. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are young people living in Northern Ireland who identify as transgender, gender variant and/or intersex, and those who are questioning their gender identity. A private benefit to trustees may arise through our involvement with governments, businesses and organisations amounting to skills in policymaking, advocacy and statutory reporting work. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

GenderJam NI is a social support and advocacy organisation for young transgender, gender variant, questioning and intersex people in Northern Ireland. We facilitate the young trans community coming together and organising among themselves, through fortnightly social support meetings and an online support network. We also produce resources for the

young trans community in Northern Ireland to better educate and inform both trans youth and professionals involved with trans youth as to best practice and harm reduction. We provide individual support where appropriate and needed, and advise other organisations and bodies on how they can improve their services or access for trans youth.
