Public benefits

The Trustees believe that the purpose of Crossroads Care NI satisfies both elements of the public benefit requirement. The purpose of the Company is, for the public benefit, to relieve the stresses experienced by carers and people with physical, mental or sensory impairment within the family or home by offering a respite service through the

provision of community based care attendants and, at the discretion of the Board of Directors and in exceptional circumstances, to provide such care attendants for disabled people living alone. The direct benefits that flow from the charity’s purpose are an improvement in the lives of carers and a high quality tailored care service to those people with care needs. The benefits to carers are demonstrated on a yearly basis through surveys and reviews. Benefits to those people with care needs are demonstrated by regular inspections by The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority and commissioners of services. The charity’s purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of the charity are carers of all age groups (Young Carers as well as adults) in Northern Ireland who provide care for an elderly, frail, ill or disabled friend or relative and those with care needs in Northern Ireland. The private benefits flowing from our purposes are the increase in knowledge and skills of Trustees, employees and people we work with which may be transferrable to other settings and payments made to employees in the form of salaries and wages. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the charity’s benefits are provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Crossroads Care NI is a Northern Ireland based charity. Crossroads provides respite care for carers, who provide care for an elderly, frail, ill or disabled friend or relative. Crossroads aim to meet the needs of carers by providing them with a much-needed break whilst providing peace of mind that their loved one is well taken care of. Crossroads

is a local charity, helping local families, supporting carers who are the backbone of care in our community and the focus of Crossroads. Crossroads Mission Statement highlights the charity’s commitment to providing exceptional service for all service users, to treating service users with respect, sensitivity and confidentiality, to supporting service users in maintaining their independence, to offering a flexible service to meet user needs, to equal opportunity and to working in partnership with users and other organisations. Supplementing the respite care service, Crossroads also run the following projects: -‘In Your Prime’ which aims to care for vulnerable elderly people who suffer from poor mental and physical health as a result of loneliness and isolation. By using older volunteers who are willing to give up some spare time to take part in activities such as befriending, a telephone service and attending events we aim to build friendships, reduce loneliness and create a support network whilst inspiring older people to contribute their skills and life experience. -‘Young Carers’ which provides respite care through the provision of social events and outings. These events have a particular focus on caring for mental health and emotional wellbeing, whilst at the same time encouraging the development of self-care through personal resilience and confidence building. The care provided is of a less overt, more passive nature as the service places an emphasis on a partnership approach, with the carers able to feel like they are in control of and able to shape the care they receive from the project.
