Public benefits
Mulberry Bush Playgroup believes that the Public Benefit can be demonstrated by two clearly identifiable components:- 1. Educational Mulberry bush Playgroup exists for the advancement of education within the local community. We provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment for children of pre-school age regardless of cultural background,
religion or other beliefs of the families concerned. We provide a broad range of activities for the children to develop their own ideas and to make decisions and choices thus developing their self-esteem and confidence. 2. Accessibility Mulberry Bush Playgroup is deliberated cost structured to achieve break even each year as opposed to being a profit orientated facility, this enables the Playgroup to provide a high level of care and facilities but at a lower daily rate than other Playgroups or Day Care Nurseries that operate on a commercially focused basis. This effectively allows a parent/parents on lower incomes to avail of the Playgroup’s facilities which otherwise may not be financially affordable to them. Demonstration of Benefits – All of our inspections from Homefirst have been good and show that the level of care and facilities are not being sacrificed/diminished to save costs. Each year the number of children applying for places far out ways the number of places we have available, we are oversubscribed every year and have a large waiting list. The wide variety of children from different social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds is evidence of the Playgroup’s success of being socially inclusive of the local community. The beneficiaries of the services of the Playgroup are the children, their immediate families and the wider community. There is no harm flowing from the purposes of the Playgroup evidenced again by the positive inspections and the demand for places each year. The staff receive a private benefit in that they are paid a wage but this is an incidental benefit.

Mulberry Bush Playgroup caters for pre-school age children (2 years 10 months to 4 years old)and runs term time from September to June. We provide planned experiences to develop the six areas of learning as outlined in the Department of Education's Guidance for pre-schoolers. Through monthly themes and structured play we enable the children to
develop in a safe, secure and stimulating environment. Our daily routine is well structured and follows our monthly theme including relevant visitors to the Playgroup. We aim to make the children's first experience of education one of fun.
