Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include raising awareness of age appropriate play based learning among parents and carers and the provision or early education for children under statutory school age in Portadown. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from Parents. Early Years Advisors and regular evaluation of our services

by Social Services and the S.E.L.B. Training Inspectorate. The purpose does give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of the purpose are children under statutory school age living in Portadown and its surrounding area. They also include parent and carer's of children under statutory school age in Portadown and its surrounding area. A private benefit flowing from this purpose is that gained by a trustee from our programme of on-going training and good governance, finance etc; which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

We are a non-profit organisation running Ashgrove Community Centre. It was set up in 1990 by two local Health Visitors who identified the lack of pre-school provision in the area. We are a well established group that caterers for 48 Children aged 3 to 4 years. We follow the N I Pre-School curriculum which are Language&Literacy, Mathematics&

Numeracy, The Arts, The World Around Us, Personal Development & Mutual Understanding and Physical Development &Movement. We aim to provide an enriched environment which promotes children's independence ,self-esteem and confidence through a play based curriculum. Our group welcomes and promotes equal opportunities and facilitates all abilities, cultures and religion.

Charitable purposes

The aim of the group is to enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age by encouraging parents/guardians to understand and provide for the needs of their children by: A) Offering appropriate play facilities, with the right of parents/carers to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of the group, ensuring that the charity offers opportunities for all children regardless of religion, culture, race or means. B) Encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such needs of such children and their families in the local areas. C) Instigating and adhering to and furthering the aims of Early Years.
