Outburst Arts Festival was established in 2007 to challenge homophobia, transphobia and intolerance in Northern Ireland through education and the celebration diversity via high quality Arts provision and world-class Arts programming. Outburst offers unique spaces to have our voices and experiences as LGBTQ people heard, to share stories and use
world-class arts events as a springboard to discussion, raising awareness and energy for change. Outburst produces an annual nine-day LGBT Arts festival, now one of the largest in the UK and Ireland. To date we have produced eight festivals, 294 events and six outreach projects for audiences of around 35,000 people in Belfast and across Northern Ireland. We also commission and develop new LGBT work for stage. Our outreach initiatives travel to rural areas, encouraging isolated LGBT people to participate in the arts and bringing world-class work to areas with poor social provision. We work closely with LGBT community organisations to develop work and programming that is relevant and accessible. We also work with government bodies, NGOs, venues and other high quality arts institutions to promote inclusion, positive health and well-being and excellence in provision.
