Public benefits
Purpose 1 - To relieve sickness The benefit which flows from this purpose is to provide support services for the beneficiaries including counselling, therapy sessions and provision of transport to cancer patients for hospital treatment where no adequate public facilities are available. The benefit that is delivered is the decrease in stress and
anxiety across the family unit though the support mechanisms provided by the charity, as not only the cancer sufferer but their family unit and carers battle to cope with the challenges that this disease brings. The services are provided by individuals who have travelled the cancer journey, so have a greater understanding and empathy, which helps to remove the feelings of loneliness and isolation that are often experienced by cancer sufferers. Purpose 2 - To advance education about cancer The benefit which flows from this purpose is the provision of advice, information and educational programmes to the beneficiaries and to promote public awareness about the effects of cancer and methods of management and of services and resources available, while also fostering an atmosphere of mutual support among people suffering from cancer and their carers/families and to encourage them to provide mutual support and encouragement to each other. Purpose 3 - Relieve financial hardship amongst people who are suffering from cancer and their families The benefit which flows from this purpose is the provision of advice and information to the beneficiaries including welfare rights advice (both formal and informal) available. The benefit of all our purposes is demonstrated through informal feedback and through having an active charity that works in partnership with the local community, other charitable bodies and relevant statutory bodies for the greater good of our beneficiaries. None of our purposes leads to harm. The beneficiaries of all our purposes are people who are suffering from cancer and their families in County Fermanagh and its surrounding environs from the point of view of people with cancer. Charity trustees are usually also people who have either suffered from cancer or have had family who have suffered from cancer and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
