Purpose One To provide facilities in the interest of social welfare in the area of benefit for activities promoted by Katesbridge Ladies’ Rural Group. The direct benefit flowing from this, is a safe and neutral facility for residents of the said area of benefit to use for meetings or training courses with various educational or government bodies.
The benefit is evidenced by word of mouth from the attendees and feedback after using the resource centre from the organisational bodies. This purpose does not lead to any harm. The benefit is for all inhabitants within Katesbridge and its environs within Co. Down. A private benefit flowing from this is that a trustee or family member may use the resource centre in the same manner as all other residents. This is purely incidental and necessary, so that the benefit is available to all. Purpose Two To support the development of a cohesive, shared and integrated community and promote the well-being of those living in the area of benefit through the provision of educational, social and recreational activities; and advancing knowledge and appreciation of the Ulster-Scots language and culture. The direct benefit is a united community which has come together as one to achieve its targets. Further benefits is a more vibrant and inclusive society via the educational programmes, recreational activities and Ulster-Scots language and culture information sessions. These benefits are evidenced through the diverse set up within Katesbridge Ladies’ Rural Group, also through feedback generated from the activities laid on by the group. The purpose does not lead to any harm. These benefits are for all residents within Katesbridge and its environs in Co. Down area. Private benefits from these are purely incidental and necessary to any member of Katesbridge Ladies’ Rural Group, as family members of all can avail of any opportunities arising. To relieve those in need by reason of youth, age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. In providing people with information, representation, and advocacy with issues such as housing, community safety, the environment and community relations; the direct benefit flowing from this a more informed society and healthier community lifestyle, giving them a better standard of living conditions and environment. This is evidenced by feedback both qualitative and quantitative. This benefit is for all within the Katesbridge community. The private benefit for Katesbridge Ladies’ Rural Group members is in line with the rest of the community, which is gaining a healthier lifestyle, and being better informed. This is purely incidental and necessary so that the benefit is available to all. Purpose Three To promote good citizenship and encourage women to become more active and knowledgeable citizens. The direct benefit flowing from this purpose is women will become more empowered, they will increase their decision-making skills and acquire family life skills, thus enabling them to become participative citizens in local and nation affairs. This is evidenced by on-going interest in our programmes and good attendance at events. This benefit is for all within the Katesbridge community. This purpose does not lead to any harm. The private benefit flowing from this purpose is purely incidental and necessary so that the benefit is available to all.

Katesbridge Ladies’ Rural Group (KLRG) is a community-based voluntary-led organisation. KLRG aims to provide a good range of services and activities for our community in an isolated rural area. Activities aim to provide social interaction and learning opportunities for all sections of the community of all ages. We provide facilities for social,
recreational and educational activity. Education and training facilitated includes life-long learning and community capacity programmes. We have been able to give the local community the opportunity to learn new skills and improve existing skills. We aim to meet identified community need by providing facilities and co-ordinating programmes for the advancement of community capacity building. We meet identified community needs through community development initiatives. All programmes are delivered through the principle of equality, in an effort to advance education and to preserve the environment and heritage within the area. The group deliver cultural programmes. Our objective is to improve the overall well being of our local community and to provide a fun, learning experience and build strong community relations. In recent years the organisation has aimed to tackle rural poverty and isolation. We provide community facilities/programmes for the relief of rural poverty e.g. Senior Citizens Luncheon Club, Seasonal Children's/OAPs parties, community transport, public information events, etc. KLRG provide community facilities and programmes to meet educational needs, e.g. I.T. Courses, community safety, community development courses, good relations training, Food Hygiene, First Aid, etc. We provide facilities and programmes for arts, recreational, cultural and heritage activity, e.g. arts and crafts classes, Ulster Scots activity, boccia, chair-based activities, quoits, table quizzes, floral art, card making, pottery, sewing, knitting etc.
