Public benefits

The purposes in our document meet the Public Benefits as follows:- The players who benefit are:- i) Members from bands from all over N. Ireland (who participate in our Summer Schools, Gala weekends and helping out with our Band engagements). ii) Members from our own band who participate as above and attend weekly rehearsals iii) Anyone who shows an

interest in learning brass or percussion instruments are all made welcome to learners classes, band rehearsals, school outreach, Summer schools and Gala weekends. The players benefit by:- i) Improved playing standards ii) Playing in ensemble iii) Meeting new music iv) Improved reading skills v) Young and old players mixing as they play vi) Developing good habits:- punctuality, perseverance, team building. Public Engagements The public also benefit from the bands participation in engagements eg:- Gala concerts, Carol Services, Summer School concerts, Church services, Last Saturday engagements, Georgian Day activities, etc The Band prepares and presents appropriate musical repertoire to suit each event which the public listens to and enjoy. This helps the players to:- i) Improve organisational skills ii) Improving presentation iii) Encouragement via feedback from public audience iv) Increasing confidence Gala weekends and Summer schools allows playing members:- i) To meet top class players/ tutors and to learn from them – thus increasing skills as above ii) To meet players from other bands building up good working relations and increasing a network of available players for public engagements Fund Raising and caring for band assets Players and supporters are encouraged to care for all band properties, instruments, music and uniforms. They are always aware that there are costs which can be met by ticket/ programme sales, in kind work, cleaning/ tidying up etc Social events The playing and supporting members are encouraged to develop social skills through all of above as well as band trips, band dinners and social club activity. The band and its supporters are aware that harm can always flow from our purposes so we try to prevent this using the following:- i) A clear set of band and club rules ii) A safe guarding policy containing contact names and contact details iii) Equal opportunities policy – encouraging respect for all who my participate or support The Band and its supporters constantly measure the Policies above by listening to feedback from participants, audiences and the public. This feedback can be aural, e-mail, letter, thank you cards, facebook. We also update our Rules, Safe Guarding , Equal Opportunity Policies in response to this feedback and current legislation. Private benefit Presently no one neither trustee/ band member/ supporter receives financial benefit for any aspect of band activity. However legitimate expenses may be authorised if the committee sees a need eg professional fees are paid @£85 per day to our summer school tutors

What your organisation does

Rehearsals on Tuesday 630 - 7.30pm for beginners and Fridays 6.30-8.30 pm for beginners. Tuesday 7.30-9.30 pm Band rehearsal Thursday 9.30 -10.30 am tuition in local primary school. February gala weekend (15th coming up) with Fodens' Band:- rehearsals with young brass soloists; concert with young soloists and gala concerts

including commissioned works performances eg Dirty River, Tunes of Armagh and The Runaway Train. Brass Summer School(14 to date) with 9 tutors from Fodens providing tuition for 80 - 120 young sand not so young brass and percussion players from around Ireland with various levels of music performed in a final concert. The Band keep busy in the locality providing music for:- church services. Armistice parade, Armistice concerts, Georgian Day market, Carols around the City, Black Preceptory Parade, Scout parade, Country comes to Town in Portadown, Band Spring concert, Whit Friday Saddleworth trips (3 to date) and other requests from Armagh City and District Council

Charitable purposes

2.1The band is established to advance education to promote the benefit of young people in the playing of Brass and percussion area of Music and in particular to: a)provide and manage facilities for the training of people particularly young in the aspects of musicianship, music and culture. b)provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for the leisure time occupation of people in the area of benefit who are in need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, poverty or social and economic circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life.
