Public benefits

The benefits which flow from this purpose are the advancement of health and relief of those in need by reason of disability. These services promote health and wellbeing, effective personal care and social wellbeing, increase independence, strengthen community and social integration skills and enhance quality of life. These benefits can be measured

through timely multidisciplinary personal care and housing support assessments and reviews which are inclusive of service users, carers, relatives and named workers. Benefits are also measured through service user forums, service user satisfaction surveys and audits of incidents, accidents, complaints and compliments and third party regulators e.g. RQIA. There is a possibility of harm in the form of abuse of vulnerable adults but any possibility of harm is minimised through a rigorous series of governance structures, regulatory policies and procedures and best practice standards which include regular individual care, support planning and risk assessment, internal and external audits, monitoring and inspections. All staff employed to work with adults with learning disabilities are Access NI checked and work to the Code of Conduct for Social Care Workers as stipulated by Northern Ireland Social Care Council or the Nursing and Midwifery Council as appropriate. Any possibility of harm is outweighed by the benefits provided. The beneficiaries of this purpose are people living in Northern Ireland with a learning disability. A private benefit to trustees and staff may arise through training provided which would be transferable to other settings but these benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure that the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
