Public benefits

The public benefit flows from the purposes of the Society in that the Society will provide direct financial benefit to the target group outlined in the purposes i.e. young people identified as members of the Church of Ireland who have been orphaned, are in full time education and who attend Sunday school. This financial aid will benefit the

recipients and is provided to relieve any financial stresses caused by the fact that the young person has been orphaned and thereby possibly deprived of education pathways, normal life opportunities and appropriate resources. The grant will therefore assist with the enhancement of well-being, knowledge and understanding in the target group of young people who have sadly been orphaned. The beneficiaries therefore are ‘Young people who are members of the Church of Ireland and have been orphaned’. The benefit is demonstrated by feedback from the Rector of the Parish and/or the guardians of the young person. The benefit is ‘beneficial’-not ‘harmful’. The beneficiaries therefore are ‘Young people who are members of the Church of Ireland and have been orphaned’. There is no private benefit

What your organisation does

The members of the Londonderry Protestant Orphan Society seek to provide grants to Orphans which shall be made at the discretion of the Committee in such amounts as may in each case be considered equitable provided always that, the half-yearly report of the Honorary Treasurer, as to available income, be deemed satisfactory. There shall be a

sliding scale of grants payable - depending on the level of education achieved by each Orphan - the scale to be decided by the Committee and ratified by those attending the Annual Meeting of the Society. A sum of money equal to the half-yearly payments shall (unless otherwise directed) be paid through the Rector in respect of each Orphan immediately on election. The Committee shall meet on the first Wednesday in the months of March and September at such hour and place as may be arranged by the Committee at a previous meeting, unless it be otherwise directed by the Bishop.
