What your organisation does

Food For Thought Africa was set up in 2007 to overcome poverty in Africa through education. We do this by providing feeding programmes in schools and secondary school scholarships. Many children living in some of the poorest parts of Africa face a daily choice between going to school and going hungry or spending the day begging and stealing in the

hopes of getting something to eat. By providing a cooked meal in school, we encourage the children to come to school and stay in school and give them a chance to get an education and get themselves and their families out of poverty for good. Unfortunately in Kenya primary education is free but secondary education is not so in 2008 we started our secondary school scholarship programme, providing funding to send the brightest, most needy children to secondary boarding school for 4 years. At the end of this time if the students obtain a B+ they receive a government scholarship to university where they have a very real opportunity to transform their lives forever and break the cycle of poverty.
