Public benefits

Based in the heart of the Shankill area of West Belfast the purpose for which Families Beyond Conflict has been established can be summarised as using a community development approach to improve the conditions of life of adults and young people, predominately in the greater Shankill area but also in other areas of Belfast. The direct benefits from

the purpose include improving health and educational outcomes through the provision of programmes in a local venue which provides a safe and secure environment for those in need living in the community irrespective of age or gender. Further benefits include creating social inclusion by being all inclusive and fighting exclusion and isolation created as a result of marginalisation through the Troubles. Its programmes provide a sense of belonging and access to facilities in its Centre. It also provides access to programmes which address the needs of children, adults and older people through social, educational and health programmes. Ultimately, through their engagement participants will be encouraged and motivated to get involved in their community and bring about positive change. The benefits will be substantiated through feedback from all participants which, in some cases, will be evaluated by an outside independent. Attendance records will also be maintained as well as a record of all programmes that take place. Details of events and activities will be distributed locally and through social media. A public AGM will be held. The beneficiaries of this purpose are any person irrespective of age, gender, religion, sexual orientation or race who reside in the greater Shankill area in particular and Belfast in general. A private benefit flowing from this purpose is that the Trustees, as people from the local community, will obtain the same benefits as other beneficiaries and may undertake some training to enable them to fulfil their governance responsibilities. There is no harm flowing from this purpose.
