Public benefits

The organisation public benefit Beyond Since 2004 the organisation has provided a professional service of diversity & global education through artistic methods for local councils, education boards, schools, community groups, businesses and social enterprises. During this time Beyond Skin has gathered a well respected track record within the

Northern Ireland community and internationally; nurturing the skills of local and international people whilst externally impacting greatly on community development and the arts sector. The Work of Beyond Skin Through our delivery processes to achieve our main aims we provide access to the arts, a forum to unlock creativity, develop audiences and empower youth; overall strengthening the sector artistically and socially. Internally we assist to build artists artistic and business skills, capacity and good intercultural practice. The organisations main beneficiaries are children & young people. This is due to the demand for our projects in schools and youth centres. We aim to engage with areas of target social need (TSN) and single identity groups or in areas / with groups that are experiencing racial or sectarian issues. The benefits people gain from taking part in a Beyond Skin project/activity are • A greater understanding & awareness of their own identity and that of ‘others’ • A greater confidence to engage with and accept those of different religious belief or cultural background • A greater understanding of their role as a global citizen and the themes that relate to us all as human beings (health, poverty, education, equality, environment). • A greater confidence and aspiration to make a positive contribution to society • Learning a creative skill (example: Dance) • Having to opportunity to meet, learn & share with someone from a different religious or cultural background. The overall public benefit to our work is a more peaceful, safe, equal, intercultural & shared society where everyone feels welcome to celebrate and share their identity. The outcomes are a reduction in hate crime, racism, sectarianism and discrimination based on ones race, religion, and cultural identity. The primary geographical target is Northern Ireland but we also work across Ireland and abroad. The projects abroad are always linked to participants in Northern Ireland so although we may be in Sri Lanka for example working in schools, students in Northern Ireland would be linked in an exchange or shared project with the Sri Lankan children. The artistic output of Beyond Skin includes music, arts, dance and multimedia which is presented through workshops, exhibitions, festivals, broadcasts, performances & multimedia works. Every artistic output is designed to have an educational element and provide access for people to explore local & world culture.
