Public benefits

Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead to

harm. The benefit is for children at St Therese of Lisieux Primary School. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm.

What your organisation does

St Therese of Lisieux PTA is a group of parents and teaching staff from the school who organise and manage fund raising events. Our primary focus is to raise money to support the educational and social development of pupils at the school. We do this through school discos two or three times a year, Halloween, Christmas and at the end of the

academic year. We arrange fund raising events for the parents of the children at the school, movie nights and summer fairs. The PTA also support school events and members volunteer to accompany children on school outings and trips. The PTA arranges social events such as refreshments after First Communion and Confirmation in conjunction with the local parish hall, and events for the primary 7 leavers at the end of the year. We have liaised with other schools in the local area bringing communities together in social projects such as gardening. We run competitions and ballots through the school and provide a meet and greet evenings for parents of new children to the school to allow parents to get to know each other and gain an insight into the school ethos. The PTA returns all money raised to the school to benefit the all pupils. This money has been used to enhance the children’s learning experience by providing for example, money to hire busses for school trips, school medals for sports day, and to purchase educational software to make the learning experience more fun. We have provided the school with gardening equipment and play equipment that is used in outdoor recreation and specific gardening projects. The PTA also liaises with local businesses to promote events and successes in the school and to enhance community relations and networks.
