Public benefits

The purpose of the Association is to advance the education of pupils in the school in particular by (i): Improved relationships between home and school. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that

works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Sullivan Upper School. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. (ii):Advancing the education of pupils in the school. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Sullivan Upper School. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Sullivan Upper Parents’ Association undertakes fundraising activities to advance the education of pupils in the school by developing effective relationships between staff parents and others associated with the school and to engage in activities or provide facilities or equipment which support the school and advance pupils' education. This has been

achieved by the sale of refreshments and tuck, raffling of Christmas Hampers, holding a quiz and ballot, the sale of second hand uniforms, raffling of easter egg hampers, bag packing at Tesco, holding a Midsummer Social and ballot, with sale of tickets, sponsorship and donations. SUPA received a PTA NI gold star award reaching the Northern Ireland regional final of PTA of the year for it's fundraising activities. Holding an induction evening on 23rd June to welcome new pupils and parents and supplying refreshments, receipt of SUPA Subscriptions, and match funding by the Bank of Ireland . The activities are in collaboration with the school, pupils, parents, staff and those associated with the school. Our Extraordinary General Meeting on 21 June marked the adoption of a formal constitution for SUPA. Monies raised have been spent on rugby training facilities, the purchase of ipads for the school library for general pupil use and the accelerated reading scheme. The remaining spend will be determined at forthcoming SUPA meetings.
