Public benefits
Advancement of education The public benefit of this purpose has been fantastic in Stranocum with the large numbers of people availing of the different classes on offer in our Community Centre. The public benefits derived from the purpose include increased skills and knowledge, greater confidence from the beneficiaries, local residents more able to
interact in the digital world through computer classes, more positive experiences of education and the learning together with friends and neighbours. Relief of the Disabled The direct benefits which flow from this purposes are the availability of all the activities we run in the community centre to those who are both disabled and able bodied. The Community Centre has full disability access and consideration is always given regarding such matters when organising activities. The public benefits are reduced isolation, increased skills, and disabled people within our community feel very much part of our community. Facilities in the interests of social welfare The direct benefits which flow from the purpose include a more cohesive community with the community centre at the heart of village life. Young people are engaged through the provision of the youth club, which leads to less problems with young people causing annoyance, ASB, etc. Older people in the village receive great benefits such as the social interaction, knowledge gained from various speakers, etc. Improve conditions of life Through the regular meetings and contacts the association have with statutory bodies as well as our own initiatives, benefits are derived for the local community. Such public benefits are improvements to the floral displays in the village, the reduction in litter in the village, and proposed improvements to our play area. The benefits can be demonstrated by the popularity of the different courses/classes we provide in the Community Centre. Some of those taking part in the classes have gone on to register for more advanced courses at the Northern Regional College. All of the activities that we provide in the Centre are open to everyone and many of our activities are attended by local people with disabilities. We regularly get upwards on 40 young people attending our youth club which is engaging them in positive activity and steering them clear of getting involved in anti social behaviour. The Friendship Club turnouts are also very good and is an activity that many of the older folk in the village look forward to as for some they have limited social interaction due to their rural isolation. S&DDG's involvement with the District Inter Agency meeting is getting local issues on the agenda and has resulted in improvements to our play area and bus shelter. The Trustees of S&DDG receive private benefits such as taking part in some of the courses or activities and gaining experience in the administration of grants, etc. Such benefits are incidental and are necessary to ensure that the purposes are delivered to our beneficiaries. There is no harm from our charitable purposes.
