Public benefits

Craigavon & Banbridge Volunteer Bureau is a non profit organisation who works in an area of high deprivation and high unemployment. The public benefit is promoting Active Citizenship combating social isolation reducing antisocial behaviour by engaging people in a charitable worthwhile cause through volunteering that gives them a purpose through

making a difference to their local community. In terms of beneficiaries this contributes to the overall social model of health by empowering and encouraging volunteers with disabilities, older people, young people, unemployed, ethnic minorities and all those under section 75 act. The Bureau’s work further benefits volunteers by creating a pathway to employment by gaining experience at grassroots level. Given that the majority of our volunteers are in vocational placements such as working with the elderly, young people, disability, counselling, domestic violence, women’s groups the benefit to the community is improving the life, opportunity, safety and overall well being. The benefit is to the local community organisations in terms of availing of best practice in effective management of volunteers and volunteer policy and procedure. Using a community development approach by engaging with all members of the community the Bureau is contributing to the overall social model of health for the community it works in. Since the inception we have always incorporated monitoring and evaluation templates into our work to date feedback from placements volunteers funders has showed 95-98% satisfaction so the evidence of our benefits are backed up by evaluation and monitoring. To date no harm has come out of our purposes. Where required in house training is provided to volunteers and placements such as capacity building, personal development, disability awareness training, safeguarding vulnerable adults. but this is incidental and necessary in furthering the purposes of the organisation. Further benefit comes through the management committee who come from different sectors of the community bringing wide range skills and knowledge which benefits the organisation as a whole.

Craigavon & Banbridge Volunteer Bureau recruits, trains, places and supports volunteers with relevant skills within Craigavon & Banbridge council areas and all its environs. The Volunteer Bureau is also a registered body for accessni contributing to safeguarding the most vulnerable people in our society by working closely with organisations with

volunteers in regulated positions, The bureau works extensively with voluntary community and statutory organisations in developing a diverse range of volunteering opportunities as well as assisting organisations with the tools for best practice pertaining to volunteering such as managing volunteers, volunteer policies and duty to care.

Charitable purposes

The company's objects are to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the area of Craigavon & Banbridge and its environs, without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating with the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare and other charitable purposes of benefit to the community, and to provide support, training and advice which enhances the effectiveness of organisations involving volunteers to promote charitable activities in the area of benefit.
