Public benefits

PUBLIC BENEFIT Purpose 1 and 4 The benefits which flow from these purposes are reduced crime in Lisburn city centre. The benefits can be demonstrated through the number of arrests directly contributed to by CCTV staff. In 2011-2012 244 arrests, 230 arrests in 2012-2013 and 244 arrests made in 2013 -2014 making a total of 718 during the past three

years. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The Beneficiaries are all users of the Lisburn city centre area. The private benefit arising from this is that the reduction of crime might result in economic regeneration in the area benefiting local business people and the enhancement of the public`s perception of safety within the city centre. This is necessary and incidental in advancing the charity`s purposes. Purpose The direct benefit which flows from the public awareness is enhanced vigilance, prevention and ultimately the detection and apprehension of offenders. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from the commercial and public sector. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. All users of the Lisburn city centre area. The private benefit arising from this is that the reduction of crime might result in economic regeneration in the area benefiting local business people and the enhancement of the public`s perception of safety within the city centre. This is necessary and incidental in advancing the charity`s purposes. Purpose 3 The benefit that flows from this purpose is increased reporting to the PSNI from radio link operators and the general public. The benefits can be demonstrated through the number incidents reported, in the period between 1st Sept 2014 – 17th Nov 2014 145 incidents were reported by radiolink, 120 of these incidents were tasked to the PSNI by CCTV operators and the number of arrests was 62. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. All users of the Lisburn city centre area. The private benefit arising from this is that the reduction of crime might result in economic regeneration in the area benefiting local business people and the enhancement of the public`s perception of safety within the city centre. This is necessary and incidental in advancing the charity`s purposes. Purpose 3 The benefit that flows from these purposes are a joined up approach to monitoring involving various parties in the city centre and to ensure that operators are up to date with the latest legislative developments. This can be demonstrated by the success of reducing anti- social and criminal behaviour in the Castle Gardens area of the city centre and through feedback from users of the area. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. All users of the Lisburn city centre area. The private benefit arising from this is that the reduction of crime might result in economic regeneration in the area benefiting local business people and the enhancement of the public`s perception of safety within the city centre. This is necessary and incidental in advancing the charity`s purposes. A private benefit to CCTV operators may arise from our programme of ongoing training in CCTV monitoring and reporting. Through this training CCTV operators gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose 2The direct benefit that flows from this purpose is that the public feel involved in reducing crime in the area and gives them a sense of community spirit. This benefit can be demonstrated from the feedback to our periodical newsletters. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. All users of the Lisburn city centre area. The private benefit arising from this is that the reduction of crime might result in economic regeneration in the area benefiting local business people and the enhancement of the public`s perception of safety within the city centre. This is necessary and incidental in advancing the charity`s purposes.

What your organisation does

What we do Citywatch provides CCTV coverage in the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area which is monitored by CCTV Operators. CCTV operators on request from Police, can provide cctv footage which can be used to assist in a criminal investigation. Citywatch operates a Radiolink service whereby Retailers and Traders in the Lisburn & Castlereagh

City Council area communicate with the CCTV Monitoring Room who can then task the PSNI with any incident that warrants investigation. Produce Periodical Newsletters, collate and publish statistics on crime prevention and detection. Arrange and attend information sessions and give presentations to various partners. Facilitate CCTV Monitoring room visits from Community groups and interested parties. Provide financial and progress monitoring reports to Citywatch funders.

The Company is established for the general benefit of the public and community of the Borough of Lisburn, County Antrim to 3.1 prevent and combat crime and anti-social behaviour 3.2 promote good citizenship within that Borough 3.3 enhance liaison between the community and the Police in crime prevention and detection 3.4 provide a secure and safe environment in public areas
